Addison Land Records

For South Carolina, we have numerous land plats that mention Thomas, Christopher, John and William.  These plats are available online from the SC Archives.


Little River, Camden District - Present day Richland County


1789 plat on Little River in Camden District for James Cameron indicating adjoining landowners Thomas Addison and Christopher Addison.  General Richard Winn is also listed (Namesake of the present day city of Winnsboro).

1797 plat on NE & SE forks of Little River in Camden District for Enoch Butler indicating adjoining landowner Thomas Addison.  Note the "Road to Columbia" that bisects the tract.  This is probably present day Highway 215.

1786 plat on Little River, Camden District for Robert McGill indicating adjoining landowner Thomas Addison.  Note the name Burr Harrison as another landowner.  Burr's name can be found on the 1790 census close to Thomas Addison.

1784 plat on Little River, Camden District for Littleberry Colville indication adjoining landowner Thomas Addison.  Note the names Col. David Hopkins and Col. Winn.  David was a Captain in the 3rd SC Regiment during the Rev. War and Col. Winn is probably Col. Richard Winn.  Note that Thomas' son John may have served in the 3rd SC Regiment (see Fold3 records).

Cedar Creek, Camden District


1785 plat for Samuel Penny in Camden District on Cedar Creek indicating John Addison as an adjoining owner.    Note that present day Cedar Creek lies just to the east and southeast of Little River.

Camp Creek and Bear Branch, Camden District
 (This land is probably near Lancaster, SC)

1784 plat for William Hicklin on Camp Creek, NE side of the Catawba River, Camden District indicating Thomas Addison as an adjoining landowner.

1800 plat for William Hicklin on Bear Branch, Camden District indicating Widow Addison as an adjoining landowner.  Note that present day Camp Creek and Bear Creek are very close together near Highway 9 at Lancaster, SC and less than 4 miles NE of the Catawba River.

Note that Arthur and William Hicklin were also Rev. War soldiers.


Mill Creek, Congaree River, Camden District 



1790 plat for John Addison in Camden District on Mill Creek branch of the Congaree River.  This land appears to be SE of present day Columbia.  Note that the Broad River becomes the Congaree River near Columbia.  The Congaree is only 50 miles long as it flows into Santee Cooper Reservation and becomes part of Lake Marion.  



Cain Creek, Pendleton District

1795/1797 plat for James Alexander on Cain Creek, Pendleton District noting John Attison as adjoining landowner.  See above where a different 100 acre plat was purchased by James Alexander from John Attison in 1794.  These tracts possibly adjoined one another.

1795 plat for John Alexander showing John AttersonEliz. Bockman and John Cleveland as adjoining landowners.  This John Cleveland is probably Rev. John Cleveland, the brother of Col. Benjamin Cleveland the hero of the Battle Of Kings Mountain.
