This page is a placeholder for my Crump research - it is a work in progress.
The name Crump could be a variation of the German Krump, Dutch Kramp or possibly English Crumpe. According to Ancestry.com, the English version was a nickname for a person who was crippled, possibly with a curved or bent back.
My Crump family begins with Richard L. Crump (1787-1853). He was born in NC, probably Stokes County. He was married twice; His 2nd marriage was to Elizabeth Kesler who is of German descent - her family was from the German Dutch Fork (Deutsche Fork) settlement in South Carolina (Near Newberry).
Richard and Elizabeth had daughter Mary Permelia Crump (1816-1885) who married Samuel L. Miller (1817-1883). Samuel & Mary had daughter Mary who married Rev. Joel Parks Ledbetter.
Richard and Elizabeth are both buried in the small Kesler Family Cemetery in northern Banks County, GA.
Richard is probably the son of Robert Green Crump (1745-1823) and Mary Parr of Virginia who moved to Surry County, NC and then to Stokes County, NC. He later moved to Franklin County, GA where he is buried in the small Crump family cemetery near Little Leathewood Creek.
Mary Parr's father was the Rev War soldier Sgt. John Parr (Sr.) (1725-1808) of Virginia and her brother John Parr (Jr) was also a Patriot soldier (3rd VA Regt).
An internet search will return numerous "hits" for both of these families - I have not had time to research them.
