I have not done any detailed research of this line since I do not think that I descend from James Hollis and Sarah Hall. However, Patrick D. Hollis of Texas and John E. Hollis of South Carolina have done extensive research on this line and Patrick wrote a book [1] that details most of his research.
I have very provided limited info of their research results below. If you think this is your line, you may find more details on Doug Goyen's website.
James appears to have been born about 1730 and he died in SC about 1801. Sarah died about 1814 in SC.
The children of James and Sarah
Although the estate administration of James in 1801 doesn't specifically name the heirs, there are buyers that are listed that are likely his children or "in-laws":
(Not necessarily listed in age order)
1. Burrell
2. Benjamin
3. William
4. Littleton
5. James
6. Sarah
7. Thomas Hughes - (in-law)
8. James Barber - (in-law)
9. Jesse Martin - (in-law)
Then on the estate administration of Sarah in 1814, the living children of James & Sarah at that time are actually named:
(Not necessarily listed in age order)
1. Burrell - administrator of both James' and Sarah's estate.
2. Benjamin
3. William - Revolutionary War soldier
4. Moses
5. James
6. Littleton
7. Nancy
8. Rhoda
9. John
10. Elizabeth
I did research William (the Revolutionary War veteran) and his sons. One son was named Reuben who is easily confused with the Reuben who was the son of Elijah V. Hollis Sr. (son of Moses). Also, William's sons Samuel and John Gideon wound up in Union Parish, Louisiana living very close to my great-great grandfather Rufus Hollis.[2]
Other than my research of William and his sons, I have not spent much time on this line but other researchers have discovered (and published/posted) quite a bit about Burrell, Littleton and William. An internet search should yield a good starting point for a researcher and there are several Wills on these individuals available from the SC archives.
