His first wife is said to have been Mouncient Brown who died about 1797 and he then married Mary Knighton about 1799. Mary died about 1839.[1] I have not seen any documentation to prove this but some researchers have stated that Mary was the daughter of Moses Knighton and Susanna Hollis - This Susanna Hollis is probably related to John Hollis of Fairfax, VA in some manner (Aunt, daughter, niece, etc.).
Moses died in 1815 leaving an estate with numerous records. From these records the 7 children of Moses are specified below.
Note that the document above would appear to show that Elijah V. Hollis was one of the children - he was the husband of Mary, not the son of Moses. It was common in that era for the husband to handle all of the affairs of his wife. The phrase "for his wife" would have been a common phrase appearing in a document of that era.

2. Mary Hollis, married Elijah Venson Hollis, Jr.
3. Peter Hollis (Peter Knighton Hollis) (b. 1802; d.1882), married Elizabeth Wilson, buried in Chester County, SC
5. Berryman Hollis (b.?; d.?)
6. Rosannah (b.?; d.?) (A minor at the time of her father's death)
7. Moses Hollis, III (b. ?;d. 1832) (A minor at the time of his father's death)
One of the children of Peter Knighton Hollis was Peter T. Hollis who documented his knowledge of the children of his grandfather Moses Hollis in a letter to Marie Bankhead Owen - See the letter here Note that Peter only details 6 of the 7 children of Moses,Jr. - he omitted the daughter Rosannah.
Rosannah and Moses were minors at the time of their father's death and there are guardianship documents for them through 1825.
US Air Force Lt. Col. Rex Reginald Hollis (1929-2010) who was one of the founders of the telecommunications company SPRINT, is said to be a descendant of Moses Hollis, Jr. through his son Brunson. Rex was also a Hollis family researcher.
Based on the extensive Will & estate documentation that is available for Moses Jr., he can probably be eliminated as the father of Rufus Hollis.
