Notley was born about 1731 in Virginia. He died in Camden District, SC in 1782. There are estate records naming his wife Anastasia (Stacy) who was probably a Taylor.
It is not known with any certainty the exact number of children that Notley and Stacy had - most of them, and their descendants, lived in Georgia. Other researchers state that they had sons John, Darrell, Thomas and Lt. Moses but there is only information available on Moses which leaves the door wide open for speculation about the rest of their children.
His estate was administered by John Hollis who was likely his son. The buyers at his estate sale were Moses, John Hollis, Jr., John Havis, Charles Pickett, John Gladden, James Goyn/Going, and James Hollis Jr. His estate was appraised by Moses Knighton of Camden. The relationship to these buyers with Notley is not known except that the administrator was likely his son and the Moses Hollis listed is also likely his son. Moses Knighton and his descendants can be found throughout the Hollis records.
According to the research done by Leonardo Andrea in 1949, Nottley owned land on Mill Creek adjacent to land where John Hollis and his wife Letitia Holliday later lived. In this record, the names of Jeptha Pickett, Daniel Hollis and Mourning Fogg are also mentioned. This John Hollis is the son of Captain John Hollis and the grandson of Moses Hollis and Rosannah Hagen and thus he would be the grand nephew of Notley Hollis. Note that there is a present day Mill Creek that is east of the town of Ridgeway, SC but it cannot be ascertained if this is the same body of water noted in Andrea's research.
Researchers think that a son of Nottley Hollis was Lt. Moses Hollis (~1750-1799). Moses was a Revolutionary War soldier. He appears to have lived in NC and then he moved to the Pee Dee River near present day Cheraw, SC. He then moved to Wilkes County, Georgia where he died in 1799. At the time of his death, he had a wife named Elizabeth - some say her maiden name was Akin. While in Wilkes County they lived along Hardins Creek which is south of the town of Washington.
Interestingly, Moses' neighbors were Joshua and Lewis Hammock, both sons of Robert Hammock and Milly/Milenor Jackson. Milly Jackson is my 4th great aunt on my Jackson family - she is the sister of the Revolutionary War soldier Daniel Jackson, my paternal 4th great grandfather (Daniel->John->Anselm->William.>Zettie). Zettie Jackson married Thomas Pierce Hollis (my grandparents).
Lt. Moses Hollis is said to have had the following children: William, John, Sarah, Thomas and Richard Hilton
A large group of these Hollises wound up in the Columbus, Georgia area. The huge PUBLIX grocery store chain that began in Florida was managed for many years by Mark Hollis who is probably a descendant of Lt. Moses. He is likely responsible for the successful growth of the chain over the past 20-30 years. Mark Hollis' ancestors can be traced to the Columbus, Georgia area.
